Truth be known

I haven't listened to much music lately. I've been so busy with schoolin' that it's hard to find time. Sorta seems like a travesty really. Having listened to music so much for past 7 years and now for the past year or so not really having it around bums me out. I guess I listen to music when I need something to enjoy and think about, but when those gaps are filled by other things it falls through the cracks. It's not a bad thing; but it is interesting.

Losing the emusic account didn't help, sometimes it seems really hard to find new good music. The most recent stuff that I know are bands like The xx, and I'm pretty sure they're no longer new. I did get a chance to see The New Pornographers in concert over the summer. I don't have much to report on it though. The venue is not great, but the band was very good.

Alas I have to go already, but somebody out there please listen to something good!

The Pilgriming Vine

Sometime now I've been afraid that the pilgriming vine is
Finally coming to take me.

Do you know this feeling?
It's a feeling of separation and futurism (A word I made up that happens to exist and have an alternative meaning).

I like to think that people are guided through life by something.

It's a lot more reassuring than the idea that we are all controlling our own destiny because frankly sometimes that seems far too difficult.

I like to think that I am guided by this Pilgriming Vine- not especially controlled or obligated to it, but guided.

It makes sense metaphorically- we all start as a bud and then begin climbing and gradually we climb up the wall connecting with other parts of the vine and diverging at different points.

Sooner or later we reach the highest we can go and our leaves drop- but that's ok.

Taste it and tell me it's savoury
Hold it up high to the light and
Let it grow and
Tell me you're always my only
Never look down mother maple
If you go
Never look down if you go

I especially like the idea that we are all growing together on a maple tree.

Ohhhh

I haven't listened to too much music lately. It is sad. But tonight I listened to a bunch of Bright Eyes and Basia Bulat. and life was good.

I send Basia a letter last year asking her a bunch of questions and telling her how much I loved her music, can you believe she never wrote back? I'm going to stick with the story I concocted that is she never got the letter because that is what makes me feel happier. I'm quite sure she is still a wonderful person. Then there was all the trouble I went to in order to secure some tasty cakes for Ms. Holly Rancher. Sadly her blog appears to be no more but I would have really liked to read her review of my childhood comfort food.
All this is rambling I suppose but the point is it can be hard to separate the music you love from the people who play it and it's ok for them to be separate. I can't wait for BB's new album to come out. If "It Can't Be You" is any indication of what will be on it then we have a lot to look forward to. I also dearly wish she would release a decent recording of "I'm So Depressed" but I don't think that will happen.
I have posted a few videos online of music by her and I must say that I am very surprised by people commenting on her appearance. Not so much in that a few people have been less than kind (how on Earth do you get anything other than adorable) but that they should care at all. She makes such beautiful music that she could look like a Madagascar baby Aye-aye and I really wouldn't care.

Anyway those are just a few ideas for a stormy night.

Cee Lo Green

For reasons that I don't fully understand all of my friends were extremely surprised to hear that I listen to Cee Lo Green. Cee Lo is a very colorful soul/R&B singer whose earlier work included working as a member of Gnarls Barkley (Crazy). He dabbled in rap and hip hop for awhile but his latest romp was into the wonderful world of R&B with "Lady Killer".

The song "Fuck You" apparently got a ton of radio play- not having a radio and being to lazy to google it I can't personally say that I noticed but after listening to the song and especially watching the video I can certainly understand why. The songs if full of catchy hooks and beats not to mention it's hilarious anti-gold digger theme. If you go and watch the video you can't help but be entertained by the awesome back up singers as well, highly recommended.

The rest of the album seems to be less popular- but it shouldn't be. It's full of gems such as "I Want You" "Satisfied" and "It's Ok", which I contend matches up with "Fuck You" for pure enjoyment. He also covers a popular "Band of Horses" song at the end of the record called "No One's Gonna Love You" which he handled quite well and in my opinion made the song better.

The point being go out there and get your hands on the entire album. No more of these silly iTunes singles. Listen and love!
